W-mers

$175.00

Size: 12 × 12 po

This artwork is inspired by the presentation “Diallelic self-incompatibility drives the recurrent evolution of dioecy in Fraxinus” by Zane Smith. It depicts the male and female symbols meeting at their center. These symbols are composed of a multitude of lines inspired by the graphical representation of k-mers. I wanted to highlight W-mers, genetic sequences that are unique to female individuals. While most of the lines are blue, one section of the female symbol contains 27 red lines shaped like the letter “W.”
